For a third year, Sustainable Design Principles Event (SDPE) brought together 220 design and construction industry professionals for an informative and inspiring look at the use and application of sustainable materials to commercial and residential projects.
Held in the centre of Sydney on the 11th of September, the event was opened by City of Sydney Independent Team Councillor, Jenny Green.
Keynote speaker, Chris Knierim, MD of Designer Constructions Group discussed the sustainable aspects, challenges and materials used on his international award winning Forest Lodge ECO Home.
Anita Mitchell, Lend Lease General Manager, Sustainability Barangaroo South and Darryl Stuckey, Sustainability Analyst, Lend Lease Design, gave a strategy update on Barangaroo South with a presentation on the sustainable materials used.
SDPE allowed for an interesting cross section of the treatment of sustainability on construction projects from a commercial corporate point of view and from the point of view of a smaller construction company doing its bit to create a more sustainable future.
Eminè Mehmet, The Global Sustainability Ambassador and founder of SDPE, said of the evening “It brought home the necessity for us all to do what we can to make a difference and that it is possible to create more sustainable projects no matter how big or small an organsiation you belong to.”
